Week 4: Day 1
Scripture: Matthew 2:1-12
These men, they did not fit in. The wise men were from the east, finding their wisdom in the stars. They were Gentiles, not the chosen of God. Not the ones waiting for a King. No, they were from the east and they were waiting on a star.
The angels declared that this baby was for all people.
And so they came from the east, following the star they had been waiting on and found the child. The child that would tear down the barriers of race and tradition and history. The child that was for everyone, everywhere.
The story of Christmas is for all of us. The dirty shepherds and the kingly wise men. The ones who have it all together and the ones who only have a thread. It is for those of us who are sure and those with questions. This story is for to broken, the bothered, the hurried, the sick, the tired, the uneasy, the confident, the brave, the wimpy. It is for those of us with too many traditions to count and those who just put up a tree this morning. This story, it is the story for all people. It is our story.
The king is here...
Prayer:
I was an outcast, a slave, a rebel, but your cross has brought me near and has softened my heart...O that I might love you as you love me.
Amen.
